Christie Brinkley Divorce showdown

Former supermodel Christie Brinkley came face to face with the 21-year-old who had an affair with her husband on the opening day of the couple’s bitter divorce trial. Brinkley’s estranged husband Peter Cook, 49, and his former lover Diana Bianchi, 21, both spoke about their brief affair during the public trial in a Long Island, New York court.

Miss Bianchi was 18 and working as Mr Cook’s personal assistant at his architectural practice when the affair happened. He met her in early 2005 when she was 18 and working at a toy store. Their affair began that March, around the time he hired her. She was paid a salary of around 20,000 to type magazine articles on to the company’s website. He also left her cash payments in various spots - 500 dollars under the rock outside his office, more behind a painting, and gave her $16,500 to help her purchase a car. Before their relationship ended in late 2005, they had sex in the office a number of times, and at homes in the Hamptons owned by Miss Brinkley.

Testifying in court yesterday, Miss Bianchi said: ‘He had shown interest in me, and I reciprocated. In his office he asked me how I would feel if he told me that he was attracted to me and that’s really how it all started. ‘I think I was a little taken aback, but I wasn’t against it either really. I wouldn’t say that one of us pushed the other. I would say that it was a mutual thing.’ Cook said their affair lasted ‘less than a year’ and he recalled they had sex about 12 times in various locations. The affair was revealed when Miss Bianchi’s stepfather, a policeman, confronted Cook and accused him of taking advantage of the teenager. The fling stunned Long Island society, of which Miss Brinkley, 54, is a leading light.

She filed for divorce two years ago as it emerged that Cook had paid Miss Bianchi $300,000 ’shut-up’ money. Miss Brinkley also intends to call as a witness a married woman who left her husband for Cook and was then dumped by him. During opening arguments at Central Islip Court on New York’s Long Island, Miss Brinkley’s lawyer Stephen Cohen said Cook visited websites devoted to sexual swingers - using their 12-year-old son Jack’s name. Jack is Miss Brinkley’s son from her third marriage, to property developer Richard Taubma. Cook, her fourth husband, adopted Jack shortly after they wed in 1996.

Salacious details launch Brinkley divorce trial

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A $300,000 payoff to a teenage mistress. Thousands of dollars worth of online porn. Extramarital trysts in the office and his supermodel wife's Hamptons homes.

Sensational testimony about Christie Brinkley's estranged husband opened their divorce trial Wednesday, giving the public a salacious peek into the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model's fourth marriage.

The husband, architect Peter Cook, testified that he and Brinkley used pornography "to get the mood going." Alexa Ray Joel, Brinkley's daughter with "Piano Man" Billy Joel, said Cook once shoved her head into a bucket of water.

And Diana Bianchi, the young woman whose affair with Cook set off a tabloid frenzy and ended the couple's marriage, testified that he hid cash for her under a rock and gave her $15,000 to help her buy a Nissan Maxima in 2005.

"That is the man who's come before this court and asked for custody of his 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter," said Brinkley's lawyer, Robert Stephan Cohen.

Brinkley, 54, and Cook, 49, wed in 1996. She filed for divorce a decade later, after his affair with Bianchi exploded into public view.

"There is no way to make that right," said Cook's lawyer, Norman Sheresky. "Peter has apologized. He's cried his eyes out. He's lost his marriage."

Cook and Brinkley are mainly disputing custody of the children. Her ownership of her $30 million home is not being contested because the couple had a prenuptial agreement. They are also arguing over property that includes three boats.

Brinkley fought a bid by the children's legal guardian to close the trial to the public, and Cook's lawyer said the model was partly to blame for an unseemly spectacle.

"For goodness sake: She's on her fourth husband," Sheresky told the court. "Your honor, we're here because of the self-indulgent wrath of a woman scorned."

"What kind of a mother wants her husband flogged in public?" he said.

Cook met Bianchi, then 18, while she was working at a Hamptons toy store in 2004. He testified that he soon hired her to work at his architecture firm, paying her $20,000 to type magazine articles onto the company's Web site.

Before long, he seduced her while they were working together in the office, she testified.

"He had shown interest in me, and I reciprocated. He asked me how I would feel if he told me he was attracted to me," she said. "I wasn't taken aback, but I wasn't really against it."

Tentative and halting during an hour of testimony, Bianchi said the two had sex about 10 times before their relationship ended in late 2005. Cook counted about 12 rendezvous — some at the office, some at Brinkley's homes in the Hamptons.

Tearing up as he testified, Cook said he showered Bianchi with spending money, including $500 secreted outdoors — he said near his office; she said it was outside his and Brinkley's home. He said he slipped more cash for Bianchi behind a painting.

The $300,000 payout came in May 2007. Cook said he was trying to protect himself and his family from scandal and was concerned that Bianchi might file a sexual harassment lawsuit. No lawsuit was ever filed.

Bianchi's stepfather, Brian Platt, testified that he told Brinkley about the affair moments after she spoke at the 2006 Southampton High School graduation.

"She was obviously shaken," Platt said.

Brinkley and Cook presented a portrait of contentment on the Hamptons social circuit. But behind the scenes, they relied on porn as a precursor to intimacy during the last half of their marriage, Cook said. He acknowledged spending about $3,000 a month on pornographic Web sites in 2005. He said he has not accessed the sites since his breakup and maintained he never looked at them in the presence of his children.

Brinkley's lawyer called her a doting mother whose work schedule revolves around her children.

Cook's attorney also painted his client as a good parent, noting interviews in which Brinkley referred to him as "the best dad in the world."

Alexa Ray Joel, 22, testified that Cook treated her well before he married her mother. But she said he was constantly on her case afterward, chastising her "if I chewed too loud" and criticizing her piano playing.

"He was just very critical of me in general," said Joel, a singer, songwriter and pianist.

When her lengthy shower caused a leak in the kitchen below in 2003, Cook stormed into the bathroom and demanded she mop up immediately, Joel testified. When she got downstairs wearing only a towel, he pushed her head into a bucket and yelled, "You clean this up!" she said.

When Brinkley found out, "she was horrified," her daughter said.

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY BIOGRAPHY

  • Christy Brinkley was born Christie Lee Hudson and was born on February 2, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan. Her father was TV writer/producer/director Don Brinkley (The Man From Uncle, The Virginian, Trapper John, M.D.). At a very young age, her family moved to sunny Malibu, California.

  • She grew up a normal Californian teenager, however, she attended, Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, a French-American High School in Los Angeles. She was also artistically inclined as a child. Armed with the knowledge of French and a love of art, she moved to Paris in 1972, at the age of eighteen and enrolled in an art school.

  • Soon after coming to Parris, she fell in love and married Jean-François Allaux in 1973. Their marriage lasted until 1981 and the couple did not have any children.

  • After art school, she found a job as an illustrator. After three years, she was spotted walking on a Paris street by an American photographer and her career as a model began. She was hesitant at first because she would be giving up a career that she enjoyed – But, her new husband was in the army, and her dog was sick so the photographer convinced her that she was a natural beauty that would be perfect for modeling and would make money to pay all of her bills. Her first modeling appearance was in Parents magazine – where she modeled wearing a bikini. In little time, she was signed by the Ford modeling agency and her career took off. [I am not going to write about the allegations made in the book Model.]

  • Within a year (1976), she signed her first contract as the cover girl for Cover Girl cosmetics and she literally became the face of the company for an unprecedented twenty years. However, her fame came to new heights when she posed for the cover of the 1979 edition of the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated. The poses in this magazine gave her international fame. In fact, she posed for the 1980 and 1981 editions as well wearing smaller and smaller bikinis.

  • She made her short, yet memorable movie debut in 1983 as Chevy Chase’s dream girl in National Lampoon’s Vacation. She was happy being a supermodel and did not pursue a career in television or the movies like many of today’s models slash actresses.

  • She did not let her creative skills get rusty and in 1983 wrote a book on beauty and fitness, appropriately titled “Christie Brinkley's Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Book,” which appeared on the New York Times best seller list.

  • Being at the top of her industry, Christie Brinkley found love again, this time with a musician at the top of his industry – Billy Joel. Christie and Billy were married in March 1985. He featured her in several of his music videos, including the famous “Uptown Girl” video that showed off his classically beautiful wife. The couple had their only child, Alexa Rae on new years day 1986. [Note: she also appeared in Joel’s video “Keeping the Faith” and Mick Jones’ video “Just Wanna Hold.”

  • In the mid to late 1980s Brinkley would take brief respites from the modeling word and stand at the opposite end of camera as the photographer. She was highly skilled and had her pictures published in many magazines including Autosprint and American Photographer. In fact, she could also be seen at ringside at many boxing events run by Don King as the official photographer. In addition to boxing, she has also photographed race car driving and baseball (whose pictures appeared on cards produced by Pinnacle) She had also created the cover art for Billy Joel’s River of Dreams album.

  • In 1992, Christie had a short gig as the host of a news/culture journal show entitled Living in the ‘90s with Christie Brinkley. She introduced several pre-filmed segments as the host. Being dissatisfied with the format, she left only after a few weeks. She has made several other TV appearances on talk shows and even a role in an episode of the sitcom Mad About You in 1994 and the comedy variety show Blue Collar TV in 2004.

  • Throughout the 1990s she balanced between the two loves of her life, modeling and motherhood. Her modeling was in less demand, but her mothering began to increase. However, her love life began to turn sour in the early 1990s and she divorced Billy Joe in late August 1994. Soon was comforted by a friend, real estate magnate Richard Taubman, who married her in December 1994. Their son, Jack Paris Brinkley, was born in early June 1995. Their marriage was short lived and they divorced in 1995. [Fast fact: Taubman and Brinkley survived a helicopter crash in Colorado in March 11994.]

  • She gained a new fame towards the end of the 1990s, not because of her role as a magazine model, but because of an infomercial in 1997 for Total Gym – which showed a still very sexy 40+ year-old Christie Brinkley. The infomercial was highly successful for the company.

  • It seems that the fourth time is the charm for Brinkley when it comes to love and marriage. She married her fourth and current husband, architect Peter Cook in September 1996. They had a daughter together in July 1998 named Sailor Lee Brinkley Cook.

  • In 1997, Christie began to branch out and went into business. She launched her own perfume called Believe. This was the start of her business side which has expanded to designer eyewear and toys for toddlers.

  • In 1998, Brinkley sued the National Enquirer for basically calling her crazy. However, the judge threw out her $42 million dollar suit because even though the article, Christie Cracks Up was “truly obnoxious” it did not subject her to “hatred, contempt or aversion.”

  • When not working or being “mom,” she spends her time volunteering for different causes, such as nuclear disarmament and the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. She also has spent time working for various politicians she believes in – and was a delegate at the 2000 Democratic Convention in Los Angeles. [Fast fact: she is a vegetarian]

  • She has graced the cover of well over 500 magazines during her illustrious career (including Cosmopolitan, Time, Life, Vogue, Mademoiselle, Ladies’ Home Journaland and many more) – and has just signed a contract (now at the age of 51) to model for Cover Girl once again. She has also modeled for many products besides Cover Girl including Prell shampoo, MasterCard, Diet Coke and Chanel perfume.

  • Her husband, Peter Cook has been caught cheating on her with an 18 year old. The couple has split and in late July 2006, he has made a public announcement that his is "stupid" for the affair and wants them to stay together.
